No. 20 Men's Tennis Falls to No. 28 North Carolina

Athens, Ga. – The No. 20 University of Miami men’s tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season, falling to No. 28. North Carolina, 4-2, in non-conference competition to open the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the University of Georgia’s Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility on Sunday morning.
The third-seeded Tar Heels (3-0), winners of three straight, will face the winner of this afternoon’s match between top-seeded host Georgia and fourth-seeded Northwestern on Monday, while the second-seeded Hurricanes (1-1) will square off versus the remaining team. Matches will be at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., with the host Bulldogs definitely playing in the afternoon match.
The winners of each of the 15 regions advance to the National Team Indoor Championships to be held in Charlottesville, Va., from Feb. 12-15.
North Carolina won the doubles point with strong wins at No. 1 and 2 and opened up the 2-0 advantage with the victory at No. 1 singles. The Hurricanes got on the scoreboard with a win by junior Waylon Chin – his second straight in dual match play – at the No. 3 position, downing Stefan Hardy, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Miami’s 114th-ranked Christian Blöcker also won his second straight, adding a point for UM with the 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 2 over Jose Hernandez, to bring UM within one at 3-2. But UNC clinched the 4-2 victory with the straight-sets win at No. 6.
