No. 21 Hurricanes Host FAU in Spring Opener
Jan. 20, 2010
CORAL GABLES, FLA… The No. 21 University of Miami men’s tennis team will host a pair of matches this week to open spring dual match competition at home at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes face Florida Atlantic on Thurs., Jan. 21, at 6 p.m., and then take on Stetson on Sat., Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.
Miami is 5-0 all-time versus FAU, including a 4-3 win to open the 2009 season, and 2-0 versus Stetson.
The Hurricanes return seven players from last season’s squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16, including three nationally-ranked players in All-American Carl Sundberg, who enters spring play ranked No. 57 in the country, No. 114 Christian Blöcker and No. 120 David Simon.
Sundberg, who looks to play at the No. 1 position for Miami, was one of three Hurricanes to win 20-plus singles matches last season – along with returning players Keith Crowley and Ignacio Taboada, finishing with a 20-7 record and a team-best 9-1 mark in ACC play en route to All-ACC Men’s Tennis Team honors.
Admission is free to all regular-season tennis matches.
