Miami Welcomes No. 5 Maryland on Senior Day

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team welcomes the N0. 5 Maryland Terrapins to the BankUnited Center, Sunday, March 1, with tip off set for 2 p.m.

Miami is coming of a brutal three game stretch where it faced three ranked teams on the road. The Hurricanes return to the BankUnited Center with three losses but they forced overtime in Virginia, lost by one to Florida State and made North Carolina sweat in the final minutes of a 90-76 loss.
The final game of the regular season will not be much easier as the ‘Canes host the fifth-ranked Maryland Terrapins. The game will be the final home came in the career’s of Miami’s three seniors. LaToya Cunningham, Latoya Drake and Lamese James..
Freshman Shenise Johnson, who this past Monday won her third ACC Freshman of the Week award, leads Miami with 13.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.29 assists per game.
A Look at the Terrapins
Maryland enters Sunday’s game with an 24-4 overall record and an 11-2 Atlantic Coast Conference record, tied with Florida State for the conference’s best record . It has won eight-straight, including three over ranked teams.
The Terrapins are led by Kristi Toliver who is averaging 18.3 points and 5.1 assists per game. Marissa Coleman and Lynetta Kizer score 17.1 and 11.8 points per game respectively.
Maryland is averaging 78.8 points and 66.9 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 46.4 percent (778-1677) from the floor, 42.2 percent (192-455) from beyond the arc and 74.9 (457-610) from the free throw line. The Terrapins also register 6.9 steals and 3.8 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to
66.9 points per game and a shooting percentage of 38.1 (719-1885 ).
The Series
Maryland owns a 7-1 all-time series advantage over the Hurricanes and have been the winner of the last five meetings. The last Miami win came in 2002. Last year, the ‘Canes suffered their worst loss of the season in College Park, falling 90-50.

Sunday will be the last home game for three women as the Hurricanes take on Maryland at 2 p.m. Lamese James, LaToya Cunningham and Latoya Drake will play on the BankUnited floor for their final time. Each will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
