Miami Heads to Virginia Tech For ACC Tilt

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will travel to Virginia Tech to take on the Hokies at the Cassell Coliseum, Thursday at 7 p.m.

Miami is coming off a tough loss to in-state and ranked rival Florida State. The Hurricanes held on of the ACC’s and nation’s best offense in check most of the game. The Seminoles only led by five points with five minutes to play, but used a late run to expand their lead in the closing minutes.
In the game, super freshman Shenise Johnson led the Hurricanes with 20 points and eight rebounds, she also contributed four assists. And for the second game in a row, junior transfer Ashley Sours played a huge role on both offense and defense. She recorded a career-high six blocks against FSU, just a game after she scored a career-high 16 points at SIU-Edwarsville. LaToya Cunningham has played 38 minutes in back-to-back games and has seemed to have found her shooting stroke once again, scoring in double-figures in her last two contests.
A Look at Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech enters Thursday night’s game with an 11-13 record, with its lone conference win coming over Clemson (65-61).
The Hokies are led by Utahya Drye who is averaging 14.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Lindsay Biggs and Nikki Davis score 13.3 and 8.5 points per game respectively.
Virginia Tech is averaging 63.2 points and 37.8 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting .409 percent (581-1420) from the floor, 30.3 percent (94-310) from beyond the arc and 62.7 (260-415) from the free throw line. The Hokies also register 8.2 steals and 3.4 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 61.8 points per game and a shooting percentage of 39.9 (557-1397).

These two programs hold an even 5-5 record against one another, with the Hokies taking the last meeting in overtime, 81-73, in Coral Gables.
