Hurricanes Back in Action at Binghamton

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team returns to the hardwood – albeit on the road – as it faces the Binghamton Bearcats at the Events Center in Vestal, N.Y. on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.

Miami has had two weeks in between games, with their last constest a tough 76-71 loss to the now No. 18 Nebraska Cornhuskers. In that game, four Hurricanes scored in double-figures, led by Riquna Williams’ 18. In only her second collegiate game, Stefanie Yderstrom scored 15 points and hit Miami’s only two three-pointers.
Williams, scoring 23.6 points per game, leads the ACC and ranks sixth nationally. She along with four other Hurricanes average 10 or more points per game pace the 11th-most potent offense in the country, scoring 80 points per contest.
Senior Diane Barnes is one of those four – averaging 10.4 points per game but she also leads the ACC with 10.4 rebounds per game. Shenise Johnson is fifth in the ACC in scoring (16.8 ppg) and eighth in rebounding (7.3 rpg).
A Look at the Bearcats
Binghamton comes into Friday afternoon’s game with a 2-6 overall record, with wins over Siena (12/2) and Bryant (12/7).
The Bearcats are led by Erica Carter who is averaging 14.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Andrea Holmes and Jackie Ward each average 13.0 points per game. Viive Rebane leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game.
Binghamton is averaging 58.8 points and 38.8 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 36.3 percent (173-476) from the floor, 36.7 percent (62-169) from beyond the arc and 56.9 (62-109) from the free throw line. The Bearcats also register 7.8 steals and 3.1 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 64.2 points per game and a shooting percentage of 41.7 (191-458).
The Series
In their only previous meeting a season ago, the Hurricanes came with a 72-37 victory at the BankUnited Center. LaToya Cunningham led all scorers with 15 points and 12 different Miami players scored in the victory.
