Pacific Palisades, Calif. – Laura Vallverdu ended her run at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Friday evening, dropping a tough three-set decision (4-6, 6-4, 4-6) to UCLA’s Yasmin Schnack in the second round of the consolation singles draw. This year’s event is taking place at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Vallverdu, ranked No. 6 in the preseason singles poll, was playing her second match of the day after defeating USC’s Maria Sanchez just hours earlier. Vallverdu was unable to keep her momentum after early victory in falling to Schnack, currently ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll.
Schnack took the opener, 6-4, before Vallverdu claimed the second to knot the match with a 6-4 decision her way. Schnack then took the third and decisive set, 6-4, advancing to the next round of consolation singles play.
Vallverdu finishes her tournament run with a 1-2 record, and will prepare for her next tournament at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships in Atlanta on Oct. 22-25.
