Hurricanes Continue Play at Gator Invitational

Gainesville, Fla… Senior David Simon of the University of Miami men’s tennis team lead the Hurricanes on day two of the University of Florida’s Gator Invitational on Saturday at the Ring Tennis Complex.
Simon was victorious in both singles and doubles play, knocking off South Florida’s Mark Oljaca, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) in Flight 4 competition. He then paired with All-American Carl Sundberg to improve to 2-0 for the weekend, knocking off USF’s Oljaca and Romain Deridder, 6-1.
Sundberg, ranked No. 79 in singles play in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Poll, is in a three-way tie for first place with 12 points entering the final day of competition on Sunday. Players earn six points for a singles win in flights one and two and a flight one doubles win; four points for a singles win in flights three and four and a doubles win in flight two; and two points for a singles win in flights five and six and doubles win in flight three.
Miami transfer Waylon Chin is in fourth place with 10 points, while Simon is in a three-way tie for ninth place with four points.
The Hurricanes close competition at the Gator Invitational on Sunday. Doubles play begins at 9 a.m., followed by singles competition.
