Simon Leads Men's Tennis on Day Two

Olympia Fields, Ill… Senior David Simon put in a strong showing as the University of Miami men’s tennis team continued competition on day two at the University of Illinois’ Olympia Fields Country Club (OFCC) Fighting Illini Invitational on Saturday.
Simon knocked off a pair of opponents to improve to 3-0 in singles play. He used straight sets to cruise past Florida State’s Connor Smith, 6-3, 6-3, and then dominated the third set to defeat Notre Dame’s Blas Moros, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
Fellow senior Hector Nieto (2-1) split a pair of matches on Saturday, battling back to beat Notre Dame’s Spencer Talmadge, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, before falling to the Fighting Irish’s Matt Johnson, 6-3, 6-4.
No. 79 Carl Sundberg (1-2) dropped a pair of matches to ranked opponents, while Christian Blöcker (1-2)also fell in two matches.
The Hurricanes close competition at the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday, with singles play at 9 a.m. and doubles competition in the afternoon.
