Julia Cohen Falls to Barrois at EmblemHealth Bronx Open

Bronx, N.Y. – Julia Cohen, a women’s tennis player at the University of Miami, fell to No. 72 Kristina Barrois (Germany) in straight sets, 6-2, 9-7 in the quarterfinals of the EmblemHealth Bronx Open on Thursday afternoon in Bronx, N.Y.
The Philadelphia, Pa. native fought tough against Barrois, currently ranked No. 72 in the world, in the second set before the German pro triumphed in the end. Barrois has won two German Tennis Championships and reached the main draw of two Grand Slam events in 2006.
Cohen advanced to the quarterfinals with an upset win over No. 95 Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia on Wednesday. Cohen, an All-ACC Team member for UM in 2009, advanced to the semifinals of the 2009 NCAA Women’s Singles Championships before falling to eventual national champion Mallory Cecil (Duke) in College Station, Texas this past June.
