Aug. 3, 2009

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Christian Blöcker (Hamburg, Germany) is among 22 student-athletes named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Tennis Team, announced ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford.

It marks Blöcker’s first conference honors and the fourth-straight season the Hurricanes have had an All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis honoree since the inaugural team was selected four years ago.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and have maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career. This year’s team includes 10 repeat honorees from 2008 – including Virginia’s Dominic Inglot who earned his second-straight ACC Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades.

Blöcker, an accounting major, wrapped up his first season competing for the Hurricanes with nine singles wins, including five in ACC competition and a pair at the No. 1 position. He played between the No. 1 and 5 positions in dual match competition, and defeated a pair of ranked opponents in 2009 – including a 6-2, 6-4 victory over UCLA’s Michael Look in the NCAA’s Round of 16. Pairing with David Simon, the duo earned 10 doubles wins, including a 7-3 mark in conference competition.

Blöcker is joined on the All-ACC Academic Men’s Tennis Team by: Brian Locklear (BC), Akash Muppidi (BC), Rok Bizjak (CU), Kevin Galloway (CU), Dylan Arnould (DU), Kiril Dimitrov (DU), Jared Pinsky (DU), Drew Bailey (FSU), Vahid Mirzadeh (FSU), Guillermo Gomez (GT), Kevin King (GT), Ryan Smith (GT), Nickolai Nielsen (MD), Jay Weinacker (ST), Houston Barrick (VA), Dominic Inglot (VA), Sanam Singh (VA)< pedro=”” graber=”” (vt),=”” yoann=”” re=”” (vt),=”” luke=”” somen=”” (vt)=”” and=”” jonathan=”” wolff=”” (wf).=””>
