Megan Bradley Hired as Princeton Women's Tennis Head Coach

July 24, 2009

Princeton, N.J. – University of Miami women’s tennis volunteer assistant coach Megan Bradley was hired Thursday as the head women’s tennis coach at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.

Bradley, a native of Columbia, Mo., prepped at Ransom Everglades in the Miami area where she was the top-ranked high school player in the nation. She spent the 2008-09 campaign serving as the volunteer assistant coach for her alma mater under her head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, while helping the Hurricanes women’s tennis team to the quarterfinals of the 2009 NCAA Tennis Championships in College Station, Texas.

“I’m just really excited that I get to be a coach at such a prestigious university with a great athletic tradition,” Bradley said. “I know the team is really good and Kathy Sell, the former coach, did a great job of establishing the program.”

Princeton was a member of the 2009 NCAA Tournament serving as a participant in the Coral Gables Regional which was won by the Hurricanes. Princeton and UM never met in the Regional.

In her playing career at Miami, Bradley was named as a two-time All-American (2004, ’05) while competing for the Hurricanes from 2002-05. Prior to UM, Bradley was selected as a Freshman All-American at UCLA in 2001-02.

As a Hurricane, Bradley ended her three-year career as the all-time single-season wins leader hoisting a record of 44-2 in 2004-05. In 2004, she became the first Miami player to advance to the NCAA Singles Tournament semifinals since 1988. She also holds the fourth-best seasonal record in UM history after collecting an impressive 37-6 record in during the 2003-04 campaign.

When departing UM, she finished her career with a total of 98 wins versus 17 losses, sitting at fifth place all-time on the career wins list in UM women’s tennis history. For doubles play, alongside Audrey Bañada she helped to establish a record of 34-4 while advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament. Bradley and Bañada also collected a 20-5 record together the previous season. Her overall doubles record still stands in the Top 15 of UM history while she recorded a mark of 72-14 all-time.

“I couldn’t be happier for Megan,” expressed Yaroshuk-Tews upon hearing the news. “I’m proud of all her accomplishments since I’ve known her. I’ve seen her develop from right here in Miami at Ransom Everglades as a prep player, into a great collegiate player for me at UM, and then into an assistant coaching role for me last year. Now, she’s taking another step in running her own program, and I truly believe that with all of her hard work and passion that she’s going to do great things with that program.”

For Yaroshuk-Tews, having just completed her eighth year at the helm in Coral Gables and named the 2009 ACC Coach of the Year, Bradley represents the third of her former players to be named as a collegiate head coach. Marcy Hora-Cava (1998-2002) is now at Florida Atlantic, while former All-American Melissa Applebaum (2002-06) is at nearby cross-town rival FIU.
