May 22, 2009
Coral Gables, Fla… The University of Miami men’s tennis team finished the 2009 season at No. 19 in the nation in the final Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings released today. It marks the second-straight season and the third in the last four years that the Hurricanes finished among the nation’s Top 20.
After a run to the NCAA’s Round of 16, Miami closed the season 16-9 overall and in second place in the ACC at 9-2.
The Hurricanes have been nationally ranked throughout the 2009 season – beginning with a preseason ranking of 17 – and remained among the nation’s Top 25 in 11 of the 16 polls. Of Miami’s 25 dual matches this season, 84 percent (21 matches) were versus a ranked opponent, including 10 versus Top 25 opponents. The Hurricanes posted a 12-9 record versus ranked teams, which accounts for all of their losses this season.
The University of Miami is among just 12 tennis programs in the nation — and three in the ACC — to have both its men’s and women’s teams ranked among the Top 25. The Hurricane women are No. 7 in the final poll after advancing to NCAA quarterfinals.
