UM Women Collect NCAA Post-Tournament Honors

College Station, Texas – The doubles pair of Julia Cohen and Bianca Eichkorn from the University of Miami were named to the No. 2 doubles position on the NCAA Tennis Championship All-Tournament Team released Tuesday evening in College Station, Texas.
The team of Cohen and Eichkorn, ranked No. 51 in the Campbell’s/ITA doubles poll, picked up two wins at the No. 2 position in the Round of 16, as well as the Quarterfinals for the Hurricanes. They collected wins over a pair of ranked opponents.
The pair opened the Hurricanes Quarterfinals run with an 8-3 win in the Round of 16 against the 66th-ranked team of Carling Seguso and Stephanie Wetmore of No. 11 UCLA. They followed that up with an emphatic 8-1 triumph over Duke’s 53rd-ranked pair of Jessi Robinson and Mallory Cecil.
Together, Cohen and Eichkorn finished the 2008-09 season with a record of 14-2, including a 4-2 mark against nationally ranked foes. They ended the season sporting nine wins in their last 10 matches.
Cohen and Eichkorn will both compete in the NCAA Singles & Doubles Tournament, both as singles competitors, beginning Wednesday, May 20 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station. They will be joined by teammates Michaela Kissell and Laura Vallverdu, competing both in singles and as a doubles pair.
