Vallverdu Named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C... – Senior All-American Daniel Vallverdu of the No. 23 University of Miami men’s tennis team earned ACC Player of the Week honors after helping the Hurricanes to a 2-0 mark in conference competition over the last week.
The 15th-ranked Vallverdu won a pair of singles matches in straight sets over ranked opponents on the road last week to push the Hurricanes into second place in the ACC standings at 7-2.
Vallverdu, who has won five-straight ACC matches over ranked opponents, defeated NC State’s No. 36 Jay Weinacker 6-4, 6-2 and Wake Forest’s No. 21 Cory Parr 6-1, 6-4 in the top flight. With 86 career singles wins, the four-time All-American now ranks fourth in career wins in Miami history.
The Valencia, Venezuela, native also picked up a doubles victory with David Rosenfeld at the No. 1 position on Friday, with an 8-4 victory over NC State’s Christian Welte and Julian Sullivan.
The Hurricanes, who moved up eight positions in the national rankings to break back into the Top 25, have two matches remaining on their regular-season schedule. They will play host to Boston College on Fri., April 10, at the Arthur Ashe/Butch Bucholtz Courts at Moore Park (765 NW 36th St., Miami) at 3 p.m. The Hurricanes then return home to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center to close the regular season versus Maryland on Sunday, April 12, at 1 p.m. UM seniors Vallverdu and Rosenfeld will be honored during their final home match.
