Final Stats

DURHAM, N.C… – The No. 45 University of Miami men’s tennis team picked up its second-straight win, knocking off No. 28 Duke, 4-3, in Durham on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in ACC play, while the Blue Devils fall to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Miami got off to another strong start, cruising to the 3-0 lead. The Hurricanes won the doubles point on victories at No. 1 from David Rosenfeld and Daniel Vallverdu and No. 3 from Christian Blocker and David Simon, and then picked up two-straight singles victories. Vallverdu, the 29th-ranked All-American, earned the second point for Miami with the 6-3, 6-2 victory in top-flight singles competition, while Simon earned the win at No. 4, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Duke got on the board with a win at No. 5, but once again Rosenfeld clinched the match for the Hurricanes with a 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 win at No. 3.

“We had a great battle with Duke today,” said Miami head coach Mario Rincon. “We had a key win at No. 3 doubles with Christian and David [Simon] to clinch the doubles point, which turned out to be a deciding factor in our match today.

“David [Rosenfeld] again won a huge match for us on the road and Dani [Vallverdu] is playing much better tennis and is returning to his top form. David Simon had a huge win for us as well. It was a very succesful weekend for us beating two great programs on the road.”

The Hurricanes return home to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for their next two ACC matches. Miami plays host to top-ranked Virginia on Friday, March 27, at 3 p.m. and then takes on No. 21 Virginia Tech on Sunday, March 29, at 10 a.m. Admission is free.
