Hurricanes Top 3 Performers of the Week

Julia Cohen, sophomore, Women’s Tennis

Cohen posted a 5-1 combined record over the past week, including singles wins over three ranked opponents, two of whom were ranked in the nation’s Top 5. She defeated No. 5 Irina Falconi of Georgia Tech only to follow it with defeating the No. 1 ranked player Ani Mijacika of Clemson a day later, improving her overall singles record to 18-4. Cohen’s impressive performance earned her the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

 

Kyle Bellamy, junior, Baseball

Over the past week against NC State, Saint Joseph’s, and Pittsburgh, Bellamy pitched in 3 games, recording a win and a save. In 5.1 innings of relief work, he gave up only 4 hits and 1 run, along with striking out 11 batters and walking just one. Bellamy’s recent performance earned him the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the second straight Hurricane to receive the honor in March.

 

Carl Sundberg, junior, Men’s Tennis

Last Saturday, Sundberg collected two wins in a match with Georgia Tech. He defeated his singles opponent in a come from behind victory to remain undefeated in dual-match play at 8-0. Sundberg, who is currently ranked No. 87, also collected a doubles victory with Daniel Vallverdu, their first victory together since entering last fall ranked No. 2 nationally.
