Feb. 3, 2009
CORAL GABLES, Fla… – The No. 23 University of Miami men’s tennis team will play host to the U.S. Junior National Team in exhibition competition on Wed., Feb. 4, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Miami at 3 p.m.
Admission is free.
“This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to measure up against some of the nation’s most talented junior players,” said fifth-year head Miami coach Mario Rincon. “Not only will it be a fun afternoon, but it will also give our team more experience with additional strong match play before we open our ACC schedule against Clemson on Saturday.”
The Hurricanes are 2-2, and return to the court following Sunday’s 5-2 win over No. 46 Denver as part of the ITA Kick-Off Classic in Malibu, Calif.
The Junior National Team will be under the watchful eyes of Jay Berger — the 2008 Olympic Team coach and formerly the head coach of Miami’s men’s tennis program from 1998-2002. In those five seasons at UM, Berger led the Hurricanes to a 78-41 overall record and to three Big East titles and two runner-up finishes.
Following Wednesday’s exhibition match, Miami men’s tennis team opens its ACC slate at home on Saturday versus Clemson at 2 p.m.
