Simon Clinches Win for No. 22 Men's Tennis

Malibu, Calif... – The No. 22 University of Miami men’s tennis team bounced back from a 2-0 deficit to knock off No. 46 Denver, 5-2, in the consolation round of the ITA Kickoff Classic at Pepperdine University.

With wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions, Denver clinched the doubles point and then picked up a victory at the top-flight singles position to go up, 2-0.

But Miami got on the board as Hector Nieto picked up a singles victory in his 2009 dual match debut  with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6. The Hurricanes then stormed back to win the remaining singles matches to claim the 5-2 win in consolation play.

Keith Crowley and No. 96 Carl Sundberg both won in straight sets, and David Simon and Ignacio Taboada added victories to secure the Hurricanes’ comeback win.

With the victory, the Hurricanes improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 2-2. Miami returns to action on Sat., Feb. 7, as they play host to Clemson in their ACC opener at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
