Miami, led by freshman Shenise Johnson is coming off their second close loss of the season, 64-70 to the Houston Cougars on the road. Johnson had a career-day, good enough for a seasoned veteran, but she scored 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds to go with six assists and seven steals in only her third collegiate game.

Senior LaToya Cunningham came out of the gates hot as she hit three first-half three pointers on her way to a season-high 15 points. Charmaine Clark the junior from Hinesville, Ga. scored 10 points, her first double-digi scoring effort of the season. Senior Latoya Drake was a point and a rebound away from her first double-double in her two seasons at Miami, as she scored nine points to go with her nine rebounds.

A Look at FIU

FIU’s women’s basketball team dropped a 67-59 nail-biter in overtime to West Virginia on Saturday night in Morgantown. Junior guard Monika Bosilj (Verazdin, Croatia) led the Golden Panthers with 19 points while collecting seven rebounds.

FIU received a huge boost off the bench from Fanni Hutlassa (Budapest, Hungary) added 12 points while Marquita Adley (Miami, Fla.) chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Series

Tuesday night will mark the 54th meeting between the two teams, which is the most games Miami has played against any other opponent. Last season at the Bank United Center, FIU’s LaQuetta Ferguson led the Golden Panthers to a 60-58 win over the Hurricane, with 26 points. All-time, Miami holds a 32-21 advantage in the series, but FIU has won the last two meetings.
