Miami to Face Houston in First Road Game of Season

HOUSTON – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will play their first road game, tomorrow Friday, Nov. 21 at the University of Houston’s Hofheinz Pavilion at 8 p.m. EST.

Miami is coming off a tough loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay. After turning the ball over 20 times and trailing by 13 points at the half, the Hurricanes came out with a sense of urgency in the second half. A Diane Barnes lay-up with just over four seconds left in the game, tied the contest at 61. Unfortunatly the Miami defense wasn’t able to get back in time and Green Bay’s Rachal Porath scored the game-winner with 0.5 seconds left on the clock.
Freshman Shenise Johnson led the team with her first collegiate double-double in only her second game. She scored 19 points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Diane Barnes added a career-high 14 points . For the game the `Canes were 14-22 from the free-throw line while the Phoenix were 13-15.
A Look at Houston
Houston is coming off a 69-47 loss to Oregon State on Wednesday night in Corvallis, Ore. In the loss they were led by sophomore Courtney Taylor, who had a team-high 16 points and 8 rebounds.
On the season, the forward is averaginf 16.0 points per game and 10.7 rebounds. Teammates Roxana Button (12.3) and Cobilyn Hill (10.3) are also averaging double-figure scoring numbers.
Last season in their match-up against Miami in Coral Gables, Taylor scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the 63-62 Cougar win.
The Series
Friday evening will mark the eighth meeting between these two programs, dating back to 1982. Unfortunately for Miami that was the last time the picked up a win against the Cougars as they are 1-6 all-time against the team.
Last season, the two met in Coral Gables where Houston left the BankUnited Center with a 63-62 victory.
