Hurricanes Set to Host UM Women's Tennis Fall Invitational

Nov. 5, 2008

Coral Gables, Fla. – Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, the University of Miami women’s tennis team will be hosting the UM Women’s Tennis Fall Invitational on Nov. 7-9 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Admission to the event is free for all to enjoy.

This weekend’s tournament will consist of student-athletes from FIU, Florida State, and UCF and, of course, Miami. It will consist of an individual round-robin format with players participating at different positions in both singles and doubles action throughout the weekend.

“I’m looking forward to having our girls compete at home this weekend,” states Yaroshuk-Tews. “I know they’re happy to be playing in front of our home crowd and give fans a chance to see them in action before we begin the spring season.”

The action begins on Friday, Nov. 7 with singles play at 9 a.m. and concludes with singles play as the last scheduled matches are to begin at 1 p.m. An action-packed Saturday starts at 10 a.m. with doubles, and will end with singles at 2:30 p.m. Sunday serves as the last day of the tournament and starts at 9 a.m. with singles play and will end with doubles play at 2:30 p.m.

“This tournament is a nice way to wind down the fall season and face some good competition within the state of Florida, as well as a very good ACC opponent [Florida State],” continues Yaroshuk-Tews. “I’m excited to get a good weekend of singles and doubles play, and to see where we are at right now after a tough fall season heading into the spring.”

“Some of our top players won’t be competing this weekend which is really going to test the depth of this program,” expresses Yaroshuk-Tews. “Without three of our starting six in the lineup, it’s going to give our depth a test that is much-needed.”
