Julia Cohen Heads to Consolation Finals at Riviera

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – University of Miami women’s tennis sophomore Julia Cohen notched a huge three-set win over No. 15 Megan Falcon of Louisiana State in order to advance to the finals of the consolation round at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Cohen, No. 25 in the ITA, pulled off an amazing 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 upset of No. 15 Falcon in a marathon affair at the Riviera Tennis Center. The match took place as part of the semifinals of the consolation main draw. For the sophomore from Philadelphia, Pa., it was her fifth ranked opponent she’s beaten this year.

Cohen will match-up with Amanda Fink (University of Southern California), ranked No. 5 in the ITA, tomorrow afternoon for the consolation main draw championship.

In the doubles main draw semifinals, the Hurricanes team of Laura Vallverdu and Michaela Kissell (No. 15) fell in a revised double-set match on scores of 6-3, 6-2. They fell to Fresno State’s doubles team consisting of Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova, ranked No. 8.

Action continues tomorrow at the Riviera Tennis Center where the finals of the singles and doubles (main draw), as well as the consolation singles and doubles will take place in the afternoon.
