Men's Tennis Advances at All-American Championships

Tulsa, Okla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will have three singles players competing in the second round of the pre-qualifying stage of the D’Novo/ITA Men’s All-American Championships on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Fifth-seeded sophomore Keith Crowley and eighth-seeded freshman Ignacio Taboada automatically advance after first-round byes, while junior J.C. Whitner advances after a forfeit from Old Dominion’s Alex Funkhouser in today’s opening round.
Whitner (1-2) will square off versus UT-Arlington’s Jason Lateko, who enjoyed a first-round bye on Friday, at 9 a.m. (EST) on Saturday. Crowley (2-1) will take on Denver’s Andrew Landwerlen at 11:30 a.m. Landwerlen defeated Virginia Tech’s Brandon Corace, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0, to advance. Taboada (2-1) closes the day for the Hurricanes with a 1:30 p.m. match versus UT-Arlington’s David Subirats, who beat Sacramento State’s Artur Klimenka, 2-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5, on Friday.
The top 16 players of the 256 competing in the pre-qualifying competition will advance to the qualifying round of the All-American Championships. Miami’s David Rosenfeld, Carl Sundberg and No. 99 David Simon have already earned entry into the qualifying round that runs from Oct. 6-8, while third-ranked Daniel Vallverdu and the nation’s top-ranked duo of Vallverdu and Sundberg have already been selected for the main draw scheduled for Oct. 9-12.
The top 16 singles payers and top eight doubles teams out of the qualifying round will advance to the main draw, which will be comprised of the nation’s top 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams.
