<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Coral Gables, FlaUniversity of Miami freshman Carl Sundberg did it again. With the match riding on his shoulders in the second-straight outing, he came from behind to win the No. 4 singles match, lifting the 27th-ranked Hurricanes over No. 28 Wake Forest, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

With the match knotted at 3-all, Sundberg battled back from a 6-1 first-set loss to win the final two sets 6-3, 6-3 over WakeForest’s Jon Wolff.

“That was another amazing comeback Carl had for us,” said head Miami coach Mario Rincon. “It’s always a battle when we play WakeForest, and today was just a good college match.”

With the win in their final home match of the regular season, the Hurricanes improved to 11-6 overall, 4-4 in the ACC and 8-2 at home. WakeForest dropped its second straight to fall to 15-8 on the season and 6-3 in the league.

Miami got on the scoreboard first with the doubles point. The 36th-ranked pair of David Rosenfeld and Vivek Subramanian – playing in his final home match as a Hurricane – won 8-2, while UM’s 35th-ranked duo of Daniel Vallverdu and Sundberg were victorious over 11th-ranked Cory Parr and Steve Forman of Wake Forest, 8-4.

The Hurricanes quickly extended their lead to 2-0, with a straight sets win by Rosenfeld at No. 3 singles. However, the Demon Deacons rallied with three-straight wins at the No. 1, 2 and 5 positions to take the 3-2 advantage.

After dropping the first set 6-1, Miami sophomore Barnabas Carrega bounced back in the No. 6 spot, and won two-straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, to tie the match at 3-all, and leave the decision in Sundberg’s hands.

“It feels unbelievable,” said Sundberg of clinching the second-straight match for the Hurricanes. “I had to come from behind today, but the other guys were playing well and my teammates really kept me going.”

“We lost five of the first six sets,” noted assistant coach CJ Weber. “It was huge for our guys to stay focused and determined.”

“It’s been an unbelievable trip,” said Subramanian of his four-year Hurricane career. “I told these guys I was here before [head coach] Mario and all of them, and it’s great to see how much this program has grown and matured.”

“I’ve only known this team with Vivek,” added Rincon. “He has been a great support and the glue that has kept this team together. It’s been an amazing experience to watch him fight on the court and always give 110 percent. I’m going to miss him.”

The Hurricanes close the regular season on the road this weekend. They take on BostonCollege on Fri., Apr. 11, and then face Maryland on Sun., Apr. 13.
