It marked the fifth-straight win for the Hurricanes, as they improved to 9-2 overall – including an undefeated 6-0 at home. With their second-straight loss, the Boilermakers fell to 7-6.
“I was very pleased with our performance today,” said Miami head coach Mario Rincon. “Keith [Crowley] did a tremendous job to come back and win at the number five singles. The match today will give us momentum as we go into a very difficult ACC match against FSU on Saturday.”
After sweeping all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead, the Hurricanes picked up straight-sets singles wins by No. 101 David Rosenfeld, Vivek Subramanian and Barnabas Carrega to claim the team victory.
Third-ranked Daniel Vallverdu won his fifth-straight match at No. 1 singles and Keith Crowley battled back for the win at the No. 5 spot to add the final two points for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes return to ACC competition on Saturday versus No. 17 Florida State (10-2, 1-0 ACC) at home at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter. Saturday’s match has been designated “Youth Day” and will feature a free tennis demonstration after the match for kids in eighth grade and under. In addition, those same kids will have the chance to enter a drawing to win a week of tennis camp with Miami head coach Mario Rincon. Free pizza and posters will also be available. Admission is free.
