March 7, 2008
CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The University of Miami’s Jack McClinton was named to the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball Team for the second-straight season, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.
The Hurricanes lead all ACC teams with six All-ACC Academic Men’s Basketball Team selections over the last three years.
McClinton was among a group of eight to earn the recognition this season, requiring a student-athlete to earn a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
A two-year starter for the Hurricanes, McClinton leads the ACC in three-point field goal percentage (.444), free throw percentage (.894) and ranks fifth in scoring (17.2). The junior guard has scored in double figures in 21 straight games and leads Miami in scoring and assists (2.7).
“Jack is an exemplary young man,” said fourth-year head coach Frank Haith, who has guided the Hurricanes to the fourth largest single-season turnaround in the nation this season. “He sets a high standard for this team both on the court and in the classroom.”
Joining McClinton on the All-ACC Academic Men’s Basketball Team is Gary Clark (Fr., Wake Forest), Cliff Hammonds (Sr., Clemson), Ben McCauley (Jr., NC State), Jerome Meyinsse (So., Virginia), Greg Paulus (Jr., Duke), Matt Zitani (Gr., FSU) and Brian Zoubek (So., Duke). Hammonds, McCauley and Paulus are repeat selections alongside McClinton.
