CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – The University of Miami football team wrapped up its sixth practice of the spring Wednesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields. The Hurricanes will hold an open scrimmage Thursday at 6 p.m. at Traz Powell Stadium located on the north campus of MiamiDadeCollege (11380 NW 27th Avenue).

The Hurricanes worked for more than two hours for the second straight day Wednesday. UM spent the last portion of practice working on two-minute drill situations.

“We were able to get everything done to tune up for tomorrow’s scrimmage,” UM head coach Randy Shannon said.

When asked about Thursday’s scrimmage, Shannon talked about what the fans can expect to see.

“It’s an opportunity for the fans to come out and see some of the guys we recruited last year that are in camp. They can see how much they have developed and also get the chance to see how the quarterbacks operate,” he said. They’ll also see how much we as a team have changed including the things we are doing offensively and defensively. It’s a good opportunity to see some great things happen.”

Thursday’s scrimmage will be the last practice before the team takes off for spring break. Miami will return to work on Mar. 18 and have seven more practices remaining after the break leading up to the spring game at the BankUnited CanesFest at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, Mar. 29. CanesFest will feature a spring game at 10 a.m., an autograph session, a question and answer period with head coach Randy Shannon as well as an opportunity to renew existing and purchase new season tickets. Gates open at 9 a.m. Parking and admission are free.
