Coral Gables, Fla. – University of Miami All-American Daniel Vallverdu moved up three spots in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Poll and is now ranked fourth among the nation’s collegiate players in singles competition.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The junior from Valencia, Venezuela, has gone 16-4 in singles competition this year, including a 9-2 mark versus nationally-ranked opponents. The No. 4 ranking is a career high for Vallverdu, who was previously ranked seventh in the nation. It also marks the highest ranking for a Hurricane since All-American Luigi D’Agord finished the 2006 season ranked third.

In doubles play, Miami’s duo of Vallverdu and freshman Carl Sundberg jumped 20 spots to move to No. 10. The tandem has gone 6-1 in dual match play at the No. 1 position and has knocked off a pair of ranked teams.

As a team, the Hurricanes (5-2) remain at No. 26 for the second-straight week and are a perfect 4-0 at home in the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.

Miami returns to competition at home versus Furman on Wed., Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
