Vallverdu Selected ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Coral Gables, Fla. – After defeating three ranked opponents in singles competition over the last week, All-American Daniel Vallverdu of the No. 24 University of Miami men’s tennis team has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
The junior from Valencia, Venezuela, went 3-0 in top-flight singles play and 2-1 in doubles competition to help lead the Hurricanes to a pair of wins over ranked opponents, including an upset of then-No. 13 Florida.
In the win over the Gators, the seventh-ranked Vallverdu defeated No. 8 Greg Ouellette, 6-4, 6-2, in singles play, and also teamed up with freshman Carl Sundberg as the 30th-ranked tandem beat UF’s Tyler Hochwalt and Jeff Dadamo, 8-6, in doubles action.
In Sunday’s road win over No. 48 Kentucky, Vallverdu and Sundberg knocked off the 21st-ranked duo of Bruno Agostinelli and Brad Cox, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point for Miami. Vallverdu later defeated Agostinelli, ranked 31st in the nation, in singles play 6-3, 7-5 en route to the team victory.
At No. 3 Ohio State, Vallverdu earned the 6-2, 7-6 victory over 85th-ranked Bryan Koniecko, but fell in doubles action to the Buckeye’s twosome of Matt Allare and Justin Kronauge, 8-6.
allverdu and the 24th-ranked Hurricanes will compete in their third-straight road match on Sunday, Feb. 10, at No. 23 Rice, before returning home to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for three-straight home matches, beginning with UCF on Fri., Feb. 15, at 2 p.m.
