Cohen Advances to the Semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships

Athens, G.A. – University of Miami women’s tennis junior Audra Cohen knocked No. 41 Lindsay Burdette of Stanford in the Quarterfinals of the 2007 NCAA Singles Tennis Championship Saturday morning at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia Campus.
Cohen (40-2), seeded No. 1 in the tournament and national rankings, downed Burdette in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to mark the third time in Miami women’s tennis history that a player advanced to the NCAA semifinals., and the second time in three years. In 2004, Megan Bradley was the sixth seed going into the semifinals of NCAA Tournament.
Cohen advances to face 18th-ranked Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor University Sunday at 12 p.m. in the semifinals. The winner of that match will move forward to the NCAA finals match.
Cohen and Zemenova have a history of competition that dates back to the 2005 NCAA Singles Championships. There, the two faced -off in the finals, where Cohen, who at the time was a freshman at Northwestern, fell to Zemenova in three sets. Earlier this spring, Cohen took on Zemenova at the ITA National Indoors and defeated her Baylor opponent 6-3, 7-6 (3) in the consolation round.
“Zemenova obviously is one the top players in college tennis”, stated head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. “As long as Audra believes in herself, her experience, and her game, great things will happen.”
“We have respect for Zemenova and the type of player she is, and I think it will be great tennis. I also believe that Audra’s mindset is a level above her competition.”
