Hurricane Tennis Set to Take On Southern California in the NCAA Round of 16

Athens, G.A. – The ninth-ranked Miami women’s tennis team will face No. 8-ranked Southern California in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Championships Friday, May 18 at 12:00 p.m. at the Dan McGill Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The Hurricanes (21-6) advanced to the Round of 16 after sweeping both Alabama A&M and thirty-fifth-ranked Wichita State in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Coral Gables Regional.
With 22 overall appearances in the NCAA Tournament, this season marks Miami’s 12th-consecutive trip, and third Round of 16 appearance in six years, with an all-time record of 24-21.
Miami finished an impressive run at the 2006 NCAA Tournament reaching the finals for the second time ever, and first time since the 1985 season. The Hurricanes captured a win against Fresno State, an upset over Notre Dame, and in their second trip to the semifinals since 1986, another upset over Southern California en route to the finals where they faced Stanford University.
The eighth-seeded Trojans advanced to the Round of 16 with back-to-back 4-0 sweeps over U.C. Irvine and Texas, respectively. USC is making their 16th consecutive and 23rd overall appearance to the NCAA Tournament.
