No. 6 North Carolina Snaps Miami Men's Tennis Win Streak

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The No. 35 University of Miami men’s tennis team saw its five-match win streak come to a close, falling to No. 6 North Carolina, 6-1, at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the loss versus their fourth top-10 opponent of the season, the Hurricanes fall to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the ACC, while the Tar Heels remain undefeated at 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. Even with Friday’s outcome, Miami continues to lead the all-time series 19-10.
The Hurricanes fell behind early, giving up the first point to the Tar Heels after dropping the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches. At No. 1, the 12th-ranked duo of seniors Luigi D’Agord (Freeport, Bahamas) and Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla./Laurel Springs) picked up their sixth-straight win with an 8-5 decision to improve to 17-3 overall and remain undefeated in ACC play at 6-0. The five points by UNC are the most given up by the nationally-ranked duo in conference competition this season, as Cohen – with 77 career doubles victories – moves closer to the school record of 81 set by John Eagleton 30 years ago.
D’Agord was the lone Hurricane to pick up a singles victory, winning his sixth-straight top-flight match, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 versus Carolina’s 46th-ranked Benjamin Carlotti. The 26th-ranked senior moves to 18-3 overall and remains perfect in ACC competition at 6-0, while improving to 7-3 versus ranked opponents.
Miami heads to Durham, N.C., to take on No. 21 Duke (10-6, 3-1 ACC) on Sunday, April 1, at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils, who are 6-0 at home this season, are coming off this afternoon’s 5-2 win over 27th-ranked Florida State.
