Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Luigi D’Agord (Freeport, Bahamas) and Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla.) have been selected the ACC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week. It marks the first time this season that the conference’s tennis honorees have come from the same school.
Cohen, the top-ranked women’s player in the nation, picks up her second ACC Player of the Week accolades after a pair of conference wins in both singles and doubles play to remain undefeated. In singles competition, the junior defeated No. 7 Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech and Clemson’s 85th-ranked Estefonia Balda to improve to 5-0 record in ACC singles contests. In doubles, Cohen and partner Caren Seenauth moved up six spots in the latest ITA rankings and now rank No. 24 in the country with 11 overall victories at the No. 2 slot. The Miami women’s (12-3, 4-1 ACC) team plays host to Virginia Tech and Virginia this weekend.
On the men’s side, D’Agord picks up his first ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades of the season. The 26th-ranked singles player went 3-0 in both singles and doubles competition over the last week to remain undefeated in ACC play at 5-0 in the No. 1 position. In doubles, the 12th-ranked tandem of D’Agord and Josh Cohen have won five straight doubles matches and outscored their opponents 24-3 over the last week to improve to 16-3 on the year at No. 1. The No. 37 Hurricane men’s squad (9-7, 4-1 ACC) rides a five-match win streak into this weekend’s competition at North Carolina and Duke.
“I’m honored to be selected ACC Player of the Week, and happy to help my team,” said D’Agord.
