Hurricanes Open ACC Play Against In-State Rival Florida State

Coral Gables, Fla. – The ninth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team plan to continue on an unbeaten path at home, as they host No. 50 Florida State to commence Atlantic Coast Conference play beginning at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Admission is free to the public.
This meeting will be the first conference match for the two squads as the Hurricanes post an 8-2 mark overall and the Seminoles are one behind at 7-2 overall.
Miami will take on FSU after coming off an undefeated weekend against three ranked opponents, No. 28 Florida International, No. 25 Michigan, and No. 74 Western Michigan.
No. 1 ranked Audra Cohen will head into conference mode leading the hurricanes with a prefect 10-0 mark in singles, while she is also currently undefeated in doubles. She holds a 5-0 record with her No. 14 ranked doubles partner, freshman Laura Vallverdu. Cohen paired up with junior Caren Seenauth back on February 16, since then the two have been unstoppable with a 5-0 mark overall mark.
No. 26 ranked senior Audrey Banada has outshined her opponents so far in the dual season in doubles as she and partner Romy Farah are ranked No. 8 in the nation, leading Miami in doubles with an 8-1 record. Banada is now the all-time leader in career doubles with a record of 110-24. In singles, she has an 8-1 record overall.
Junior Gina Sabatino has shown great strength so far on the dual season as she marks an 8-1 record in singles.
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series, 20-2, with then No. 10 ranked Miami taking a 7-0 sweep over then No. 56 ranked Florida State last season in Tallahassee at the start of ACC play.
Scouting the Opponents:
The Seminoles are heading to Coral Gables right off a 4-3 defeat over Florida International, after being down 3-0 at the mid-point of the match.
FSU’s two losses on the dual season came off a 6-1 match-up against Georgia, and a close 4-3 loss to Florida.
Lauren Macfarlane leads the Seminoles with a 8-1record in singles, while Jessica Wente sits close with a 7-2 mark. Wente and doubles partner Miranda Foley lead their squad with an 8-3 mark in doubles.At the beginning of the dual season, the in-state rival was ranked No. 61 but moved up a couple of notches, and are now sitting at No. 50 in the last ITA rankings.
