Women's Tennis Defeats No. 10 Baylor in the Consolation Round at the National Indoors

Madison, Wis. – The fifth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team defeated No. 10 Baylor in the quarterfinals consolation round at the USTA/ITA Team Indoor Championships 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Nielson Tennis Stadium.
With the win Miami advances 4-1, while Baylor falls 2-3 on the season. In the tournament, the Hurricanes finished the weekend 2-1 and are now 10-11 in seven Team Indoor appearances.
Audra Cohen, Laura Vallverdu and Audrey Banada finished the weekend 3-0, after all three players defeated ranked opponents in the quarterfinalist consolation round.
In doubles, Miami started with a 1-0 advantage over Baylor. Cohen and Laura Vallverdu moved from the two position they have played so far on the season, to the No. 1 spot defeating Lenka Broosova and Klara Zrustova 8-3, while Banada partnered up with Romy Farah to finish with an 8-1 win over Jessica Zok and Zuzana Chmelarova.
No. 6 ranked freshman Vallverdu beat No. 37 Lenka Broosova 6-0, 6-1 in straight set singles in the No. 2 spot, while No. 1 ranked Cohen defeated No. 21 Zuzana Zemenova at the No. 1 position 6-3, 7-6.
In the No. 3 spot No. 56 ranked Banada clinched the match for the Hurricanes as she defeated No. 38 Jessica Zok 6-3, 6-2.
Also adding points to the board was No. 53 Romy Farah and junior Caren Seenauth. Farah, finished with a 6-1, 7-6 defeat over Klara Zrustova in the No. 4 position, while Seenauth finished out the No. 5 spot taking down Iva Mihaylova 6-2, 6-4.
The Hurricanes will be back in action Friday, February 16 as No. 21 Texas visits Coral Gables. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
