No. 11 Men's Tennis Takes on Stetson Wednesday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 11 University of Miami men’s tennis team follows up Sunday’s dual season-opening victory over North Florida versus another in-state rival in Stetson on Wednesday, January 24, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 3 p.m.

Wednesday’s match will be broadcast exclusively via streaming video on ACC Select at www.accselect.com. Hurricanes fans can purchase a Single Event Pass ($3.99 per event) or an All Event Pass ($5.99 per month) which allows unlimited access to events.

Miami opened its dual season with a 6-1 victory on Sunday over North Florida, as the Hurricanes swept all three doubles matches and picked up wins in five of the six singles matches. Seniors Luigi D’Agord and Josh Cohen got off to strong starts, putting together an 8-4 doubles victory on Sunday. D’Agord went on to win his fourth-straight singles match of the season at No. 1, while Cohen used straight sets to emerge victorious in the No. 2 singles position.

Newcomers Hector Nieto and Barnabas Carrega were also impressive in their dual season debuts, with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions.

Stetson opened its 2007 dual season with a 3-4 loss to Wofford, while Monday’s scheduled match at Bethune-Cookman was rained out and rescheduled for February. The Hatters went 19-5 in 2006, including a 5-1 mark on the road, and advanced to the Atlantic Sun Conference finals. Stetson is led by 61st-ranked junior Marcus Echtler, who advanced to the NCAA Championships last season.

Following Wednesday’s match versus Stetson, the Hurricanes will welcome Wisconsin to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday, February 4. Admission to all regular-season matches at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center is free.
