Hurricanes End Run at 2006 Wilson ITA Southeast Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Vivek Subramanian’s and sophomore Daniel Vallverdu’s berths into the round of 32 highlighted a day when all six remaining members of the University of Miami men’s tennis team were knocked out of the 2006 Wilson ITA Southeast Regionals held at the University of Kentucky.

After knocking off Memphis’ Amrit Narasimhan 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 64, Subramian advanced to the round of 32 where he fell to Georgia Southern’s Mattias Skold 6-4, 6-5.

Vallverdu advanced to the round of 32 with a win over Auburn’s Terence Nugent 7-6 (5), 6-2 before falling to Mississippi’s Bram ten Berge 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The remaining four Hurricanes each fell in the round of 64 including Josh Cohen, who went down to USF’s Henning Hipp 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, Hector Neito, who fell to Tennessee’s 116th-ranked Davey Sandgren 7-5, 5-7, 6-4, Josip Rupena who fell to Tennessee’s 95th-ranked Bobby Cameron 6-1, 6-3 and Barnabas Carrega, who fell to Georgia’s Joshua Varela 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles, Nieto and Rupena were knocked out in the round of 32 with an 8-2 loss to Georgia’s Gonzalaz and Hunt.
