CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com)- The University of Miami women’s tennis team will be on the road this weekend to begin their 2006 fall season at the annual Gator Fall Classic beginning Friday Sept.15 to Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Ring Tennis Complex. The three-day event will include Miami, invitational host University of Florida, University of South Florida, and Duke University.

The Hurricanes will open against invitational host Florida with doubles at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by South Florida in singles. On Saturday morning, Miami will take on USF in doubles beginning 9 a.m. followed by a singles competition versus Duke. UM will finish the weekend with doubles matches against Duke at 8:00a.m., and face Florida in singles matches.

“We’re looking forward to heading up to the University of Florida this weekend to play three top programs”, said head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. “We’ll have a good gage of where we stand against some of our opponents, so we’re excited to get going and see our players in a competitive situation.”

Three Hurricane players, including one doubles team were ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Preseason rankings last weekend. Last season’s ITA national player of the year Junior Audra Cohen was ranked No.1 in the nation. Last season she placed No.1 in singles and No. 2 in doubles. Junior Audrey Banada was ranked No.71 by the ITA this season, followed by junior transfer Romy Farah (Clemson University) at No.120. Banada and freshman Laura Vallverdu begin the season No.7 in the country in the doubles rankings.
