Miami Set to Face Fresno State in NCAA Round of 16

STANFORD, Calif. – The seventh-ranked Miami women’s tennis team will face 23rd ranked Fresno State in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Championships Thursday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m. (EST) at the Taube Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University.

Miami (21-6), seeded seventh in the NCAA Tournament, advanced to the Round of 16 last weekend by defeating Boston University and Florida International University to win the NCAA Coral Gables Regional.

The Hurricanes are making their 11th-consecutive NCAA appearance and second Round of 16 appearance in five years. In 2004, Miami advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 1986. Miami is making its 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament and hold a 21-20 all-time record.

Unseeded Fresno State (20-6) advanced to the Round of 16 with a 4-3 upset over 11th-seeded Cal on May 13. The Bulldogs, who are riding a 12-match win streak, are making their 11th consecutive season and second sweet sixteen appearance in three seasons.

Thursday’s match will also mark the first meeting between the two schools.
