Hurricanes Draw No. 3 Seed for ACC Men's Tennis Tournament
April 17, 2006
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After finishing in a three-way tie with Duke and Virginia for a share in the ACC regular season title, the tenth-ranked University of Miami men’s tennis team will head into the 2006 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship Tournament as the No. 3 seed when play begins Thursday at the Cary Tennis Complex in Cary, N.C.
Second year head coach Mario Rincon and the Hurricanes wrapped up the regular season with an overall record 17-3 – the most wins since the 2001 team finished 21-4 – while going 9-2 in league play.
UM’s 9-2 mark in league play places them in a three-way tie with the Blue Devils and Cavaliers for the top spot among the league standings. As determined by the ACC’s official tie breaker policy, Miami was awarded the No. 3 by a blind draw among the top three teams.
With a first-round bye, the Hurricanes will take on the winner of Thursday’s match between No. 6 Wake Forest and No. 11 Maryland Friday at 3 p.m.
