D'Agord Tabbed ACC Performer of the Week Once Again

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami junior Luigi D’Agord helped the Hurricanes to a pair of road wins, including an upset win over Virginia, earning Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week honors for the second week in a row.
In Miami’s 4-3 win over No. 8 Virginia on Friday, the fifth-ranked D’Agord earned a straight sets victory at No. 1, topping No. 9 Somdev Devvarman, 6-3, 6-4.
The Hurricane win snapped a 24-match unbeaten streak for Virginia, which had not lost since a 5-2 setback to No. 18 North Carolina on April 3, 2004.
Against No. 54 Virginia Tech on Sunday, D’Agord picked up another win from the top flight, this time dispatching No. 52 Arvid Puranen, 6-3, 6-1, in the Hurricanes’ 6-1 win.
The senior from Freeport, Bahamas, also teamed with Daniel Vallverdu at No. 1 doubles to top the Hokies’ Christian Guevara and Brent Wilkins, 8-5.
D’Agord’s, who is 29-4 overall, 15-1 in dual play and 9-0 in ACC play, improved his current unbeaten streak to 14-consecutive matches with his two singles victories over the weekend.
His 29 wins are the seventh-highest single season total in UM history.
Miami returns to action on Friday hosting Wake Forest at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center at 1 p.m..
