Hurricanes Ranked Fifth in Latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla.– The University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up to fifth in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings it was announced Tuesday, marking the first time the Hurricanes have been ranked in the Top Five since the 1987 season. It is also the highest the Hurricanes have been ranked in head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ five years at the helm.
The Hurricanes (14-3, 6-0 ACC) moved up two spots from No. 7 with the help of an 11-match win streak that includes victories over two third ranked teams and ten teams ranked in the Top 50. Miami has now been ranked among the Top 10 for three consecutive weeks. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Atlantic Coast Conference placed six teams in the Top 25–the most in the country. Leading the way for the ACC is No. 4 North Carolina followed by No. 5 Miami, No. 12 Duke, No. 14 Georgia Tech, No. 17 Wake Forest and No. 24 Clemson.
The Hurricanes return to action with a two-match home stand where they will host No. 14 Georgia Tech Friday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. and No. 24 Clemson Sunday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. Both matches will be played at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter. Admission is FREE.
