Hurricanes Ranked 14th in Latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla.– The University of Miami men’s team is ranked 14th nationally in the latest Fila/ITA collegiate rankings that were released Tuesday. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Having won four-straight and seven of their last eight, second-year head coach Mario Rincon and the Hurricanes are 9-2 on the year with six wins over ranked opponents.
The Hurricanes have two nationally ranked singles players in juniors Luigi D’Agord (No. 7) and Josh Cohen (No. 48).
With an overall record of 22-4, including an 8-1 record in dual play, D’Agord moved up four spots from No. 11 since the last individual rankings released March 7. D’Agord has won seven-straight singles matches and is 11-3 versus nationally ranked opponents.
Cohen climbed 12 spots to No. 48 behind an overall record of 20-4 and a 8-2 spring dual record. Cohen has won eight of his last 10 singles matches and is a perfect 6-0 at the No. 2 position.
D’Agord and teammate Daniel Vallverdu are ranked 48th as a doubles tandem. Together, the duo is 6-3 in dual play from the No. 1 position.
The Hurricanes will take on Denver Wednesday at 12 noon at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter. Admission is free.
