The No. 7 ranking is also the highest that the Hurricanes have been ranked in head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ five-year tenure.
Miami, which stretched its win streak to eight, improved to 11-3 overall after upsetting then third ranked North Carolina, 5-2, last Friday. The win marked the second third ranked opponent that the Hurricanes have defeated this season. Miami is now first in the ACC standings with a 4-0 record in league play.
The Atlantic Coast Conference placed three teams in the Top 10 including No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Miami and No. 10 Duke.
Sophomore standout Audra Cohen moved up to third in the Fila Collegiate Singles Rankings. The Plantation, Fla. native is 17-0 overall and 8-0 against nationally ranked opponents.
Junior Audrey Banada remained ranked No. 83 with a 19-8 overall record while senior Melissa Applebaum stayed at No. 102 with a 10-9 mark.
Cohen and Applebaum moved up three spots to 10th in doubles. Miami’s top tandem upset UNC’s then seventh ranked Jenna Long/Sara Anundsen pair, 9-8 (7-5) to clinch the doubles point in UM’s win on Friday. The duo is 8-0 since joining at the No. 1 position.
Making their debut in the doubles rankings are Banada and freshman Monika Dancevic who join to make the nation’s 45th ranked doubles team. The tandem is 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
The Hurricanes return to action Wednesday when they host Denver with the men’s team at noon. Admission to the NeilSchiffTennisCenter is FREE!
