Audra Cohen Tabbed ACC Tennis Performer of the Week

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – University of Miami sophomore Audra Cohen was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week after leading the Hurricanes to an upset victory over third ranked North Carolina with wins in both singles and doubles last week. This is the third ACC Performer of the Week honor for Cohen.

Cohen, ranked fourth in the nation in singles, topped North Carolina’s 25th ranked Jenna Long, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. The Plantation, Fla. native improved her record to 17-0 is now 8-0 against nationally ranked opponents.
In doubles, she paired up senior Melissa Applebaum to upset the Tar Heels’ seventh ranked Long/Sara Anundsen pair 9-8 (7-5) to clinch the doubles point. Cohen and Applebaum, ranked 13th in the nation, are 8-0 since joining at the No. 1 position. Cohen is 14-3 in doubles this season.
The 10th-ranked Hurricanes defeated the Tar Heels, 5-2, to improve to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in ACC play.
Miami returns to action on Wednesday, March 22, when it hosts Denver. Match-time at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter is slated for noon.
