Hurricanes Extend Win Streak with Sweep Over Eagles

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 13th ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team claimed its second 7-0 victory in as many days with a win over No. 56 Boston College Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center on the campus of Harvard University. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The Hurricanes improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in ACC play while the Eagles fall to 5-5 on the season and 0-3 in the ACC.
Sophomore Audra Cohen, ranked fourth in the nation, claimed a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory over Szlivia Szegedi at No. 1 singles while freshman Monika Dancevic, ranked No. 118, outlasted Dasha Cherkasov, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8), at the No. 2 position.
At the No. 3 position, junior Audrey Banada, ranked No. 83, topped No. 96 Lana Krasnopolsky 6-3, 6-3 as sophomore Patricia Starzyk defeated Alina Sullivan, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 4 slot.
Sophomore Caren Seenauth upended Sarah Svoboda, 6-2, 6-3, at court No. 5 and Ana Rupic defeated Gia Nafarrete, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 6 position.
The Hurricanes opened the match with sweep in doubles. Cohen and Dancevic paired up at the No. 1 spot to defeated BC’s Krasnopolsky/Cherkasov pair, 8-3 while Banada and Rupic downed Svoboda and Sullivan, 8-2, at the No. 2 position. Seenauth and Starzyk joined at the No. 3 position to defeat Szegedi and Nafarrete, 8-7 (3).
Miami returns to action Friday, March 17 when it hosts third ranked North Carolina. Match time at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter is slated for 1:00 p.m.
