Audra Cohen Named ACC Performer of the Week

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>GREENSBORO, N.C.– Sophomore Audra Cohen was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week it was announced Monday.

Cohen garnered her first ACC honor after posting a 2-0 record in singles play to help Miami (3-3) to a 1-1 mark over the weekend.
The highlight of Cohen’s big week was a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Florida’s Diana Srebrovic, who is ranked No. 1 in the nation. In addition to picking up the victory at No. 1 singles, Cohen also teamed with senior Melissa Applebaum to earn an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles against the 25th-ranked Florida duo of Nina Suvak and Whitney Benik to clinch the doubles point. Despite Cohen’s heroics, the 13th-ranked Hurricanes (3-3) fell to No. 2 Florida, 4-3, on Sunday.
The Plantation, Fla. native also picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win over Paula Zabala in Miami’s 7-0 sweep over No. 26 Florida International on Friday. Cohen again teamed with Applebaum to top No. 24 Zabala and Nikkita Fountain, 8-3.
The Hurricanes return to action when they host UCF Saturday, Feb. 18 at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter. Action begins at 1:00 p.m.
