Hurricanes Upend No. 22 Oklahoma State 5-2

HOUSTON, Texas – Taking four-of-six singles matches and all three doubles matches, Miami was able to fight through excessive winds to knock off No. 22 Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas.
The win gives Miami (3-1, 1-0 ACC) – ranked 30th nationally in the latest Fila/ITA rankings – and head coach Mario Rincon their second win over a top 25 team this season.
The Hurricanes swept the doubles point behind wins by Luigi D’Agord and Danny Vallverdu at No. 1, Tim Krebs and Vivek Subramanian at No. 2 and Josh Cohen and Eric Hechtman on the No. 3 court.
With a 1-0 match advantage, the Hurricanes suffered a setback in singles when OSU’s Artie Burmistrau defeated Hechtman, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot, tying the score at one-all.
Krebs finished next on court No. 4, downing Felipe Diaz in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) just before 25th-ranked D’Agord knocked off No. 27 Daniel Byrnes, 6-2, 7-6, to put UM within one point of the victory.
Miami’s Cohen – ranked 87th nationally – the clinched the match at the No. 2 spot, upending Thomas Bohunicky, 7-6, 7-6, to give UM their fourth point of the afternoon.
Vallverdu claimed UM’s final point, bouncing back from a tough 6-4 first-set loss to Ivan Puchkarov to win the second and third sets, 6-3, 7-5, respectively.
The Hurricanes return to action Sunday, facing No. 40 Rice at 12 noon (CST).
