Hurricanes Claim Four Singles Matches Against FIU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team claimed four-of-five singles matches against FIU in the final day of competition at the Hurricane Fall Invitational Sunday afternoon.

The Hurricanes opened the day with doubles action against Vanderbilt. UM’s doubles tandem of junior Audrey Banada and sophomore Patricia Starzyk topped Caroline Ferrell and Maggie Yahner, 8-2.

In singles action against FIU, senior Melissa Applebaum topped Egle Petrauskaite, 6-3, 6-1 before Starzyk likewise claimed a straight set victory over Nikkita Fountain, 6-3, 6-3.

Sophomore Caren Seenauth, down 4-0 in the second set, came back to defeat Daca Jovanovic, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Junior Emily Mowery closed tournament by downing Bruna Discordia, 6-3, 7-6 (1).
