Men's Tennis Hosts Miami Invitational This Weekend

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –
The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami men’s tennis team will officially kick off the 2005 fall season this weekend, hosting the Miami Invitational featuring UM, Florida Atlantic, Stetson and Georgia Southern at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The three-day, four-team tournament will open for the Hurricanes on Friday as members of the UM team square-off with Georgia Southern at 3 p.m. Miami returns Saturday to face in-state foe Stetson at 11 a.m. and finish off Sunday against Florida Atlantic at 3 p.m.
In the preseason ITA rankings recently released, the Hurricanes are one of only six teams in the nation to boast at least four players in the singles rankings.
UM junior and 2005 All-ACC standout topped the Miami list with a national No. 20 ranking. Junior , an All-SEC transfer from Alabama, followed just behind Cohen at No. 26. Senior , who finished the 2004-05 season second on the team in total wins (20) to Cohen (23), is ranked 62nd while fellow classmate drew the 100th spot in the country.
The UM quartet was also ranked in the preseason doubles rankings with the tandem of Cohen and D’Agord drawing the No. 32 spot and Krebs and Hechtman duo coming in at 50th.
Admission to each match of the Miami Invitational is free to the public.
